The EMC and Controls Specialist is to lead a team of engineers undertaking electronic engineering work packages required to efficiently support the delivery of bids, installations and systems to meet requirements, schedule and cost.

Responsibilities for the EMC and Controls Specialist include:

  • Delivering compliant EMC solutions across the business
  • As the Subject Matter Expert for electronics / EMC, maintain currency with the latest EMC standards, testing methodologies and regulations
  • Working collaboratively with all disciplines to ensure effective integration of electrical/electronic systems and components within mechanical restraints to ensure a defined electrical/electronic build standard.
  • Providing electronic engineering support and assistance to all areas of the business
  • Providing effective line management for engineers including development and mentoring
  • Management and coordination of internal and 3rd party EMC testing
  • Reporting of progress for all projects and tasks within your area of responsibility
  • Promoting and upholding the company values and procedures.
  • Promoting and adhering to Health, Safety and Environmental best practice.
  • Complying with all legal, statutory and contractual technical requirements.
  • Supporting to drawing, parts and documentation review, check, sign off and approval
  • Supporting Bids and preparing cost estimates and budgets

Tasks:

  • Defining work packages and tasking documentation, including design approaches, budget and timescales to support programme schedule for delivery.
  • Producing, or reviewing and approving engineering technical documents.
  • Producing, or reviewing and approving engineering calculations to substantiate product designs.
  • Producing presentation packs and presenting evidence in formal development gate reviews.
  • Producing, or reviewing and approving technical specifications for sub-contract suppliers.
  • Producing, or reviewing and approving test schedules / reports and lead testing activities.
  • Managing team performance to ensure delivery to schedule and budget.
  • Conducting Professional Development Reviews and supporting development of engineers.
  • Supporting verification and validation activities to confirm system compliance.
  • Producing electronic design drawings using the approved design software package
  • Supporting project reviews (PDRs/CDRs) as SME to ensure technical compliance
  • Supporting process development and governance
  • Designig and verification of EMC solutions, including all calculations
  • EMC Test Planning and defining of the requirements.
  • Preparation and maintenance of test equipment
  • Co-ordination of internal and external test facilities
  • Execution of EMC Testing in accordance with applicable standards
  • Problem solving – Troubleshooting EMC Issues as they arise
  • Problem solving – Troubleshooting of Control system Issues
  • Document and implement operational standards relating to Control Systems
  • Defining software standards for control systems
  • Produce Software Design Specifications.
  • Produce Software Test Specifications.
  • Create, modify, review and test application code

Technical Competencies:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field
  • Proven experience in EMC testing and compliance
  • Strong knowledge of EMC test standards, of DEF STAN 59-411, MIL STD 461, MIL STD 188-125/2 & IEEE-299 2006.
  • Familiarity with EMC test equipment, such as spectrum analysers, signal generators, antennas, oscilloscopes, and conducted immunity setups.
  • Ability to interpret and analyse EMC test data and results effectively
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills to plan and execute multiple tests concurrently
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to think analytically and suggest innovative solutions

Certification:

  • BSc in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent

Experience:

  • Experience of assembling, connecting and operating specialist instrumentation such as RF Signal Generators, Power Meters and Spectrum Analysers
  • Working as part of a team or under own initiative as needed
  • Reading and understanding the client test definition documents understanding references to specialist instrumentation and test environment equipment
