 COSMIC (Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer), is an expertly curated and world-renowned scientific cancer genomics data resource.  COSMIC reconstitutes the overwhelming flood of cancer genomics data into a commercially, academically, and clinically valuable data used globally by tens of thousands of users every day. 

We have an excellent opportunity for a scientific leader to join us as our Head of COSMIC science.

 Key responsibilities of the role are:

  • Define and implement scientific strategy, ensuring alignment with our vision and goals. Identifying and monitoring achievement of scientific deliverables.
  • Represent COSMIC at external events (conferences, stakeholder meetings), build collaborative partnerships with academic institutions.
  • Initiate the Scientific Advisory Board, chair meetings and support team members.
  • Monitor the societal and scientific benefit brought by COSMIC to the Scientific Community and define sustainable ways of maximising it.
  • Line Management of Senior Staff Scientist.

You will bring new perspectives to COSMIC and have a flair for innovation and creative thinking. Essential Skills

 Technical Skills:

  • PhD in related discipline 
  • Experience in senior manager role in a 50+ employees company that provided innovative and impactful products 
  • Post-doctoral level experience in Oncology, Genomics, or related disciplines 
  • Expert Knowledge and understanding of current scientific trends and market needs in genomics 
  • Previous experience with Scientific Advisory Boards 

Behavioural Skills:

  • Proven leadership skills, ability to lead by example, motivate, support and mentor people 
  • Ability to engage with a team strategically, set realistic goals and ensuring they are reached 
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex ideas 
  • Ability to engage with both academic and commercial organisations
