Health and Safety Assistant Manager

We are looking for a Health and Safety Assistant Manager for the Health and Safety and Facilities team at Sartorius. In this role, you will be responsible for the development and implementation of health and safety regulations and legislations. You will work towards having all necessary policies in place and keeping a high standard in all fields of health and safety.  Current projects include reshaping the health and safety management to filter down responsibility throughout the business by reorganizing the current structure.


This position is available full time based at our Royston site.  


Grow with us – Your Responsibilities  

  • Contribute to the development of the overall company health and safety strategy, standards, and culture

  • Investigate accidents, incidents and sources of risk and liaise with engineers, management, and health and safety regulatory authorities to identify causes of accidents / risks and prevent their recurrence

  • Provide advice and training on health, safety and welfare protocols and conduct audits to ensure compliance with organization and government standards related to employee health and safety

  • Implement policies and practices to identify / mitigate hazardous conditions with negative impact on the health, safety and welfare of staff, contractors and visitors on all Royston sites and Royston staff on external sites

  • Organize activities and programmes in connection with the company health and safety programme

  • Keep close relationships with all internal stakeholders involved in company health and safety programmes and engage with external stakeholders like health insurance, occupational health resources and the HSE

  • Control and track success of health and safety activities and engagement

  • Work with contractors to ensure that all work undertaken on site will be managed proportionate to the risk


What will convince us

  • NEBOSH National Certificate or equivalent with over 6 years’ experience or NEBOSH Diploma and 2-3 years’ experience in pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical industry, though candidates from other industries in manufacturing will also be considered

  • Understanding and know how on legal framework regarding health and safety law

  • Experience in leading health and safety projects as well as leading teams working on those projects

  • Ability to lead all staff and gain their respect through in-depth health and safety knowledge and the ability to apply that knowledge in a sensible and pragmatic manner using a risk based approach

  • Strong communications skills, open and friendly manner

  • Ability to influence individuals to find a common solution for health and safety issues by explaining facts, policies, and practices

  • Ability to work independently but supported with regular 1:1’s

  • Able to enthuse others in health and safety and build upon a well-established safety culture

  • A desire to move into line management as the role develops
