IT Technician

Applications are invited for an IT Technician, which is a new role to support the IT team in the Department of Earth Sciences. This is an exciting opportunity where the post holder will work as part of a team providing IT service delivery to the Department and will be responsible for providing first and second line support, including the problem solving of routine technical issues. Acting as first point of contact, the post holder will respond to a broad range of service requests for support, investigate problems in systems, install / remove hardware and also assist with website administration.

The Department of Earth Sciences is a complex and dynamic department within the School of the Physical Sciences. It is based at two main sites, one on Downing Street in central Cambridge and the other is the Bullard Laboratories at Madingley Rise in West Cambridge; it also incorporates the Sedgwick Museum which has sites both in central Cambridge and in West Cambridge. The person appointed will be expected to work flexibly across all areas of the Department and will need to travel between the central Cambridge and West Cambridge sites on a regular basis.

The successful candidate will be educated to HND, HNC, level 4/5 vocational qualification or have equivalent level of practical experience, with recent experience providing user support and troubleshooting Windows and macOS clients. Previous experience of working in an IT department is also required, with demonstrable knowledge of IT support. The ability to manage and prioritise tasks, with strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team are essential. Previous experience of working in Higher Education would be advantageous.
