Purpose of the role
Prof. Richard Gilbertson, senior group leader, Li Ka Shing Chair and Head of Department of Oncology and CRUK Cambridge Centre Director is seeking a highly motivated, organised and initiative-focused laboratory manager. This role serves as the critical interface between the research and administrative processes within the lab.
The Gilbertson lab studies the fundamental origins and treatment of paediatric and adult cancers. This Principal Scientific Associate position provides project management, scientific support and training to other team members, including Research Associates, Academic Clinical Fellows, PhD students and Senior/Bioinformatic Analysts. The post involves administration and management of lab finances and operations, interactions with the core facilities, wider collaborators, and representation of the PI at senior- level management meetings.
What we are looking for
The team is looking for an individual to lead laboratory operations across the entire group to an exceptional standard. To do this, it is essential that the holder of this role has significant experience working within an academic or industry research laboratory and has sufficient scientific knowledge to grasp the scientific aspects across multiple projects.
It is vital that the individual has outstanding interpersonal skills and a positive, flexible, and diplomatic approach to demanding situations. This role will involve communication across the entire research group and therefore will require exceptional team working skills. Due to the nature of the role, we would expect this individual to be innovative, independent, and confident in their own decision making and highly organised.
