Introduction to Role:
Join our globally-renowned Oncology Business Unit, which is leading the rapid business growth of our enterprise and ever-evolving industry. As the Medical Affairs Leader - Oncology, you will create, lead, and manage our external engagement strategy and generate innovative scientific partnerships to enhance medical education, insight collection and evidence generation.
The role includes overseeing and guiding AZ’s engagement with Oncology Key External Experts (clinical and scientific), medical and professional societies, national clinical guideline groups, and sponsored research networks. The MAL will have medical accountability for AZ UK’s Oncology Grants and Donations distribution & expenditure
This field-based role offers medical affairs leadership, particularly in field medical in OBU UK and will be a core member of the Oncology Medical Leadership Team.
Accountabilities:
In this role, you will advance the reputation of AstraZeneca, OBU and Medical Affairs organizations. You will create, lead and manage AZ UK’s external engagement strategy with regard to Key External Experts and Emerging Leaders; Define AZ’s involvement with all major medical and professional societies, research networks and industry consortia, working towards advancing science to care in our oncology tumour areas; Oversee consistent industry leading approach to medical contribution on joint and collaborative working opportunities; Drive the strategy, scientific agenda and lead the execution of AZ UK oncology congress activity.
You will also initiate and drive new Academic/Clinical collaborations and partnerships; Support and develop Medical Education initiatives including congress symposia and SEM and You will be responsible for managing specific scientific projects for the OBU and establishing the UK as a leader in innovative clinical research.
Essential Skills/Experience:
- Degree in Life Sciences
- Understanding of external engagement and partnership principles
- Scientific and clinical evolution in Oncology
- Significant pharmaceutical experience in Medical affairs
- Highly desired: solid experience in Oncology
- Strong strategic thinking, judgmental and influencing skills
- Proven strategic medical affairs track record
- Interpersonal skills, dynamic, committed, innovative and driver of change
- Autonomous, independent and self-starter
- Customer focused
- Able to interact with experts at all tiers

- Post-graduate qualification
- Cross Therapy Area knowledge
- Broader experience gained working in different functions
