Post-Doctoral Researcher, Biochemistry

An opportunity has arisen at CDT for a Biochemist, as a Post-Doctoral Researcher, interested in bringing to market the next generation of fluorescent markers for biological applications. In this role, you will provide a strong scientific contribution to the development of fluorescent nanoparticles. Specifically, you will be involved in the development and optimisation of high density DNA based assays (including immobilisation of DNA to the surface) for the evaluation of novel bio-functionalised fluorescent nanoparticles. Once developed, you will provide feedback on the performance of the bio-functionalised nanoparticles in these assays to the material development team so improvements can be made.

You will hold a PhD in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Biological Chemistry, or related field, or a degree with equivalent relevant research experience gained in an industrial or academic environment.  Extensive experience of developing and executing DNA based assays is an essential requirement, ideally with extensive knowledge in oligonucleotide immobilisation chemistries. In addition, experience in one or more of the following areas would be highly desirable:

  • Use of fluorescence-based materials for the detection of DNA or proteins.
  • Protein based assays.
  • Methods for characterizing ligand-analyte interactions (binding kinetics, binding affinity).

We are looking for someone self-motivated with a proactive, methodical and organised approach to work who has excellent problem-solving capabilities.  You will be a team-player with the ability to communicate clearly at all levels of the organisation on both a technical and non-technical level.

We have an agile, dynamic work environment, offering outstanding opportunities for learning and development working as part of a vibrant and diverse team. We offer a competitive salary, together with a generous sign-on bonus.  Our benefits package includes 27 days holiday, plus UK bank holidays - we even give you an additional day off work to celebrate your birthday!  In addition, as part of our commitment to corporate social responsibility, we have a policy that enables our employees to take paid time off work to undertake voluntary and charity support work.  We also offer a flexible working approach, including flexi-time and homeworking.  On top of this, we offer private health and dental insurance, life assurance, income protection insurance, an Employee Assistance Programme and pension scheme.
