We work with customers in the aerospace, nuclear, automotive, oil & gas, medical and power generation sectors.The successful candidate will enjoy responsibility for, and rapidly gain experience in, these areas. You will strengthen the core skills of an exciting and innovative team by taking on responsibilities including project management, preparation and negotiation of contract proposals, laboratory-based experimental work and preparation of reports.We are recruiting for a Project Leader position depending on qualifications and experience. The role will involve bidding on and delivering a wide variety of technical projects ranging from blue-sky innovation projects, single client projects to large publicly funded projects. This will require co-ordinating work across the wider TWI business to achieve the project goals. The successful applicant’s main duties and responsibilities would include:Managing projects within agreed budgets and timescalesDefining processing and characterisation work to be completed, and analysing the resultsProducing high quality reports and/or research papers arising from project workResponding to technical enquiries from clients with clear, accurate, comprehensive informationVisiting clients, presenting to clients, and hosting client visits to TWIIdentifying and developing business opportunitiesUnderstanding customers’ requirements, accurately costing the effort required and writing detailed, high quality proposals and project reportsWorking with colleagues to bid for publically funded research projectsMaintaining and developing your own technical expertise and reputationTravel:This position will require regular travel within the UK and Europe to attend project meetings and to develop single client business, as and when required.Security clearance: The ability to attain UK security clearance will be beneficial in this role as it will allow access to a greater range of project work and customers.About us:TWI Ltd is a world expert in engineering, materials and joining technologies.   • Defining processing and characterisation work to be completed, and analysing the results
  • Producing high quality reports and/or research papers arising from project work
  • Responding to technical enquiries from clients with clear, accurate, comprehensive information
  • Visiting clients, presenting to clients, and hosting client visits to TWI
  • Identifying and developing business opportunities
  • Understanding customers’ requirements, accurately costing the effort required and writing detailed, high quality proposals and project reports
  • Working with colleagues to bid for publically funded research projects
  • Maintaining and developing your own technical expertise and reputation

 

To be successful in your application the following skills/qualifications are essential:

  • A Bachelor degree, or be working towards a degree, or equivalent qualification/experience in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline

Or, significant experience in one or more of the following technical areas: brazing, diffusion bonding, powder metallurgy, hot isostatic pressing, near net shape manufacturing,

  • Knowledge of metallurgy and materials characterisation
  • Project management skills, with a particular emphasis on managing applied research projects.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) within a business environment.
  • Good client interaction skills, preferably gained in an industrial or applied research environment.
  • Ability to work independently and also as part of a team.

The following skills/qualifications would be desirable:

  • Experience in one or more of the following technical areas: brazing, diffusion bonding, powder metallurgy, additive manufacturing, hot isostatic pressing, near net shape manufacturing, heat treatment, materials characterisation
  • Understanding of engineering drawings, CAD modelling and design

Significant experience in one or more of the following technical areas: brazing, diffusion bonding, powder metallurgy, hot isostatic pressing,

 

  • You will preferably be working towards, or hold, Incorporated or Chartered status linked to membership of a relevant professional institute.
