The Department of Plant Sciences is seeking applications for a Purchasing & Stores Supervisor following the retirement of the existing role holder.

The new role holder will be responsible for the co-ordination of all procurement activities in the Department, including overseeing large capital purchases and running tender processes alongside the management of day-to-day purchasing. The role holder will also administer the Stores section, managing a small team, and will be responsible for implementing and maintaining detailed records of all stock held and the purchase of items as needed to replenish consumables.

Experience in a purchasing environment is essential, preferably in a scientific setting. Candidates must also have experience in the use of procurement applications (ideally Oracle based) and stock management tools in addition to expert knowledge of the purchasing cycle and the key roles within it. Knowledge of Health and Safety procedures is desirable to ensure compliance with University regulations, together with previous experience in managing high-value purchases and line management of staff. Candidates must be educated to at least A-level standard or equivalent, to include GCSE English Language and Mathematics. A professional purchasing qualification such as CIPS Level 4 or similar would be desirable.

The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills, with a positive, service-oriented attitude and be highly competent in standard Microsoft Office software and email packages. They will be able to work independently as well as in a team and have a pro-active approach to problem solving. Attention to detail, a high level of accuracy, and effective time management are essential.

The post is full time and available to start from mid January 2024.
