We are inviting applications for a Post-Doctoral Research Associate (PDRA) position in the synthesis of magnesium nanostructures at the University of Cambridge. This project aims to study and implement new approaches to the colloidal synthesis of metallic magnesium nanoparticles. The successful applicant will have access to world-class synthetic and characterisation facilities.
We are looking for a Research Assistant/Associate with a strong experimental background in air-free colloidal synthesis of chemicals and/or nanomaterials. Candidates should have a PhD, or about to be awarded a PhD, and a strong background in chemistry or a closely related subject. Knowledge of optical spectroscopy and nanoscale characterisation techniques is desirable. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are also required.
The project is funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) grant EP/W015986/1.
The position will be hosted by the Department of Earth Sciences and have full access to the group's facilities available in the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy and the Department of Earth Sciences.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 31 December 2024 in the first instance.
Earliest start date: 01 January 2024
Salary Ranges: Research Associate: £36,024 - £44,263 (Grade 7). Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will initially be under-appointed as a Research Assistant (Grade 5, Point 38 - £32,982), moving to Research Associate (Grade 7) upon confirmation of their PhD award.
