Research Assistant (Epigenetics - Hannon Lab)

We are looking for a bright and motivated Research Assistant to join our team at the CRUK Cambridge Institute (part of the University of Cambridge) to develop new technologies for the study of gene regulation.

You will be part of a small team, led by Dr Giorgia Battistoni, studying the role of DNA and RNA modifications in regulating cell identity and function. To this aim, we develop novel technologies to measure gene expression and chromatin regulation, both in situ and on bulk and single-cell sample, with increased throughput and resolution. Our ultimate goal is to unravel the intricate network of cellular and extracellular interactions that direct cancer progression and metastatic process, with parallels to gastrulation and morphogenesis in embryonic development. We strive to make our tools available to the wider community to further basic discovery and translational research.

Our team is based and embedded in Professor Greg Hannon's laboratory, a multi-disciplinary group of scientists working on diverse areas ranging from fundamental RNA biology to metastatic cancer research and the development of new technologies.

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and competent individual with excellent laboratory skills in molecular biology or biochemistry. A background in genomics and epigenetics or expertise with relevant sequencing methods such as RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, CUT&Tag are desirable. In particular, we encourage applications from candidates with previous experience with in situ technologies such as single molecule FISH, in-situ transcriptomics, multiplexed IHC, or similar.

Experience with tissue culture, RNA extraction and purification, histology, microscopy or bioinformatic analysis would be beneficial but are not strictly required. The successful candidate should show initiative and independent thinking, possess excellent communication and organizational skills, and have the ability to work effectively both individually and as part of a diverse team, integrating their work with that of others.

Applicants should have a BSc or MSc degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline (Biology, Biochemistry, Natural Sciences) as well as a reasonable amount of practical research experience.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 1 years in the first instance.
