Research Assistant (Fixed Term)

The University of Cambridge is one of the world's oldest universities and leading academic centres. If you're looking for a new challenge and would like excellent benefits, extensive learning opportunities and a stimulating working environment in return for your skills and contribution, there could be a job here for you.

The post holder will join a team investigating some of the beneficial cognitive, affective and behavioural effects of appreciating art and aesthetic objects, as part of the interdisciplinary project "Higher Values: Aesthetic Experiences, Transcendence, and Prosociality," funded by the Templeton Religion Trust.

The successful post holder will have a strong background in conducting experimental psychology research. Ideally, the person would also be passionate about the empirical study of art, aesthetic experiences, and/or moral psychology.

The successful post holder will become part of an interdisciplinary team, which is composed of psychologists and philosophers: Professor Simone Schnall, who is Director of the project, is an expert in experimental social psychology, and particularly on moral psychology and the cognitive effects of the emotions; and Dr Ryan P. Doran, who is Co-Director of the project, is an expert on philosophical aesthetics and experimental philosophy, and particularly on the relationship between beauty and moral cognition.

Under the guidance of the Director and Co-Director, the successful post holder will work closely with two Postdoctoral Research Associates, so an ability to work collaboratively within a team is essential. The successful post holder will be based in Cambridge.
