The University of Cambridge is one of the world's oldest universities and leading academic centres. If you're looking for a new challenge and would like excellent benefits, extensive learning opportunities and a stimulating working environment in return for your skills and contribution, there could be a job here for you.

The MRC Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit, Cambridge, is seeking to fill the position of a full-time Research Assistant for a one-year term, with the possibility of extension. The successful candidate will join the research programmes led by Prof Tamar Makin, focusing on the study of brain plasticity for the augmentation and restoration of hand function. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to research that bridges the gap between able-bodied individuals and those with disabilities, using motor augmentation.

The central duties of the Research Assistant will involve the orchestration and execution of interdisciplinary studies focusing on motor augmentation, which includes the operation of advanced motor augmentation devices and the application of wearable sensors.

The role demands proactive involvement in the recruitment of study participants, setting up equipment, piloting studies, and gathering data from a variety of populations, including adults, children, and clinical subjects.

The postholder should demonstrate robust experience in research focused on artificial limbs and/or motor augmentation technologies and show proficiency in the design, execution, and analysis of face-to-face research studies, with an emphasis on longitudinal research within the motor learning domain. Familiarity with fMRI scanning procedures, as well as the collection and analysis of data using complex technical setups such as wearable sensors and markerless tracking, is essential.
