Research Assistant/Associate in Carbon Nanotube Infrared Bolometry (Fixed Term)

A position exists, for a Research Assistant/Associate in the Department of Engineering, to work on functionalization of Carbon Nano-Tubes (CNTs) for bolometry.

The post holder will be located in Central Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.

The key responsibilities and duties are:

-Device fabrication (photolithography, etch, thin films, aerosol deposition, etc.) and characterization. -Functionalization of Carbon Nano-Tubes, optimization of morphologies, and research on bolometry with particular focus on:

-Fabrication of CNT-bolometer. -Optimization of material functionalization. -Bolometer testing. -Writing of progress reports to fulfil the requirements of the grant and contribution to research publications of the University's Energy Group. -Liaison and collaboration with members of the Energy Group and other research teams within the University. -Organisation and attendance to project relevant meetings with other academic and industrial participants. -Contribution to the preparation of proposals and applications for funding to external bodies, such as the European Commission and the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).

The skills, qualifications and experience required to perform the role are:

-A PhD, or soon to complete a PhD, in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or Physics or a related discipline pertaining to device fabrication. -Experience in clean room, device fabrication and characterization. -Knowledge of sensor fabrication, bolometry and/or carbon nanotubes. -Ability to conduct research independently and with minimal supervision.

The candidate should be able to:

-Communicate technical content across specialist and non-specialist audiences structure and present technical project reports.

The candidate should have:

-Research experience, for example via a dissertation thesis, in device experience in analysing measurement data.

Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once the PhD has been awarded.

Salary ranges: Research Assistant: £29,605 - £33,966 Research Associate: £36,024 - £44,263

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 15 months in the first instance.
