The Centre for Geopolitics (CfG), a research centre within the Department of Politics and International Studies at the University of Cambridge, invites applications for three two-year, fixed-term post-doctoral Research Associates to pursue historically minded work on statecraft and strategy with the new Ax:son Johnson Institute for Statecraft and Diplomacy (AJI), established by the Axel and Margaret Ax:son Johnson Foundation for Public Benefit.

The successful candidates will be responsible for conducting research on any area of geopolitics, past and present. Preference may be given to candidates researching the Indo-Pacific and the formation of the United Kingdom.

The post holders will also support the Centre's broader objectives through organising and curating events, publications and outreach initiatives. The postholders will report directly to the Directors, Professors Brendan Simms and William Hurst.

These are demanding positions, which involve working in a fast-paced environment and require a pro-active approach to research, as well as to the organisation of events and liaising with partners both within and outside the University.

Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD, an equivalent research doctorate. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once PhD has been awarded.

Salary Ranges: Research Associate: £36,024 - £44,263 (Grade 7). Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will initially be appointed as a Research Assistant (Grade 5, Point 38 - £32,982) moving to Research Associate (Grade 7) upon confirmation of your PhD award.
