We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Scientist researcher to join the Bioscience Asthma & Skin Immunity research group in Cambridge, UK. This is an exciting opportunity to work on research projects focused on investigating the pathogenesis of skin diseases including atopic dermatitis, and the identification of novel targets.
In this lab-based research role, you will have a significant opportunity to drive the direction of the work. You will focus your research on characterizing novel biology pathways in skin diseases to aid target validation and drug projects. You will collaborate with scientists from a variety of functional teams in Cambridge and with our sites in Gaithersburg, US and Gothenburg, Sweden. Using your experience in automation, you will facilitate the introduction of automation equipment, methods and application to a range of discovery projects to drive efficiency and robustness.
A Ph.D. in Immunology or Pharmacology with major focus in immunology and 5+ years industry experience
In vitro culture, differentiation and functional assays of immune cells, including T cell, monocyte-derived dendritic cells
Proficiency with all aspects of laboratory automation equipment (simple and complex protocols, maintenance, safety)
Processing of human tissue samples (eg. biopsy processing, peripheral blood mononuclear cell isolation)
Functional in vitro assays (co-culture experiments, MSD multiplex cytokines, screening of compounds), including potency assay
Strong hands-on skills in basic biochemical and molecular techniques including cell culture, quantification of mRNA (qPCR) and protein expression; ELISA, Western blot, Immunohistochemistry and flow cytometry.
Highly organized and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team to conduct a high-level research project.
Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to critically analyse data sets.
Demonstrated ability to run collaborative efforts and utilize external resources to find the most effective solutions to deliver high-quality science, translatable to human disease.
Scientific creativity and ability to drive own research ideas to a successful conclusion, demonstrated by strong publication record or project progression
Effective contributing to collaborative projects involving cross-disciplinary and global teams.
Experience with mentoring students at the undergraduate and Ph.D. level.
Drive for constant personal development and increasing skill base.
