As a Senior Bid Engineer – Systems you will be the technical lead on a number of engineering bids. Following the Bid Engineering process the role includes leading solution development accommodating standard product where possible, engineering requirements, Work Breakdown structures and NRE development and technical proposal writing for the engineering elements of a bid.

 

Your responsibilities include:

  • Lead the bid engineering team to ensure most cost effective solutions are developed, which are safe to use and compliant requirements and statutory legislation.

  • Work to standards, processes & procedures to ensure rigour, resilience and continuous improvement.

  • Ensure pragmatic and best-practice Systems Engineering techniques are adopted through bid development to acceptance.

  • Define and engineering work packages to support delivery to schedule and budget

  • Lead engagement with the engineering team, customers and suppliers, and develop strong working relationships.

  • Ensure lessons learnt and best practice are shared across the business to support continuous improvement and consistency.

  • Act promptly and mobilise internal resources and team to resolve issues.

  • Identify development needs and opportunities of team members and provide coaching / training to develop technical capability.

  • Define technical solutions to meet customer requirements through Systems and Products Breakdown Structures and preliminary sizing calculations for key systems.

  • Populate customer compliance matrices and lead engineering element of bid documentation such as technical proposals.

  • Define and co-ordinate work packages and NRE hours estimates for the delivery of the bid when won

  • Document and define design and analysis approaches, assumptions, risk and opportunities.

  • Produce, or review and approve engineering calculations to substantiate product designs.

  • Produce presentation packs and present evidence in formal development gate reviews.

  • Develop procurement specifications to support supplier inputs into the bids and work closely with the procurement team to support technical calls and evaluate supplier responses.

  • Work to the bid process and ensure all activities are worked in accordance with the bid schedule.

 

Apply if you have most of the following:

  • Sound understanding of engineering principles.

  • Ideally qualified to degree level in Engineering, Mathematics or Physics with relevant and sufficient experience in the field.

  • Experienced in planning and delivering tasks to schedule and budget, demonstrating effective time management across many projects and priorities.

  • Proven experience of supporting team members to deliver and develop through coaching and guidance.

  • Sound understanding of product safety, standards, technical risk management.

  • Broad understanding of manufacturing techniques, including riveting, bonding, fabricating.

  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with energy and enthusiasm to all levels within and outside of the business.
