Team Leader (Custodians)

The University of Cambridge is one of the world's oldest universities and leading academic centres. If you're looking for a new challenge and would like excellent benefits, extensive learning opportunities and a stimulating working environment in return for your skills and contribution, there could be a job here for you.

Cambridge Judge Business School (CJBS) is a provider of world-class business education in the form of its MBA and Executive MBA programmes, MPhil programmes as well as the PhD programme and some undergraduate teaching. The Business School has an extensive Executive Education programme as well as a number of centres. There is a large and growing events calendar with many conferences, speakers and other networking events taking place in the evenings and at the weekends.

Cambridge Judge Business School is comprised of multiple sites, including the Simon Sainsbury Centre, the Old Addenbrooke's Building, and Keynes House. Behind the façade of the original Addenbrooke's Hospital, the interior of the building is a dramatic and modern design which presents challenges to the Facilities Team. The Business School has office accommodation, five lecture theatres, 10 seminar and meeting rooms, a dedicated dining room, a common room providing a social and meeting space as well as student project and syndicate rooms, an information centre, and a computer lab. The Business School also occupies all floors of the neighbouring Keynes House along with six houses in Trumpington Street.

All users of the Business School have high expectations, which if not met can result in a decline in our reputation and a loss of revenue.

The role holder is part of the Facilities team, who manage the building and provides all central services to the Business School and its staff, students, and guests. In total there are 800 regular authorised users of the buildings who always have access (365 days a year, 24 hours a day). The figure of 800 does not include delegates attending conferences, meetings, and events at the Business School. CJBS current plans for growth and development have a considerable impact on the Facilities team with the resulting additional pressure on existing facilities and services.

As the team-leader reporting to the Facilities Services Manager, the role holder is responsible for the delivery and development of the custodian team delivering all services to the Cambridge Judge Business School (CJBS) portfolio. They will lead the personal development of the team and ensure standards of service delivery are being met in line with the CJBS strategy and requirement.

As supervisor of the Custodian team, any agency cover and sub-contractors who may be involved in the provision of custodial services, the Team Leader is responsible for the delivery of high standards across all areas of activity and leads on projects within the Custodian Team. They will also assist the Team in the delivery of all aspects of practical work, auditing and maintenance of CJBS assets (namely teaching equipment). With the Senior Building Technician, assist with any basic maintenance task/project and conduct all statutory tasks such as emergency light checks, fire alarm checks, lift checks, water flushing and temperature checks (legionella). As supervisor of the custodian team, whilst reporting to the Facilities Services Manager, the role holder will ensure the service and standards are being delivered as required. They will also provide suitable cover of the Senior Building Technician in times of their absence, ensuring safety checks and basic maintenance tasks are completed in all premises.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment, a security check and a standard Disclosure and Barring Service check.

Applications are welcome from internal candidates who would like to apply for the role on the basis of a secondment from their current role in the University.
