Description of role: As part of our continued growth, we are seeking to appoint an experienced manager for the role of Team Manager within the “NDT Inspection Services” Section of the “Non-Destructive testing” (NDT) Group. The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of two CSWIP/PCN Level 2 qualifications in NDT and an appropriate qualification at degree level or demonstrable experience of a leading role in NDT. As a Team Manager you will support the day to day management of a team within the Section and proactively develop a pipeline of new business to support your team, engaging your team with potential customers, colleagues in other business units and the business development function. You will maintain projects to a high level of safety, quality and technical excellence while ensuring time, cost and delivery targets are met. The NIS section delivers a broad range of projects to an international customer base often with competing demands and the requirement to co-ordinate multiple priorities in a fast paced, continually changing environment. As Team Manager, you will be responsible for the allocation of technical resource to best fit project needs, assist in the delivery of projects for our customers as well as supporting day-to-day customer enquiries. To be successful you will need to: Demonstrate experience of managing multidisciplinary teams and projects; Commit to providing technical excellence with effective communication and interpersonal skills, Strong knowledge of NDT and on-site application and/or strong knowledge of development of NDT techniques within the nuclear industry; Track record for effective Project Management, scoping of work and authoring of technical reports to a high standard; Capability to assist staff training and development activities within your team including motivation/reputation/succession planning and personal growth opportunities. Travel: This position will require travel on a short term basis within the UK and overseas according to the demand of your project work and client interactions. Key accountabilities

  • To take responsibility for health and safety in the workplace and to comply with TWI quality assurance, security, environment and data protection requirements.
  • To deliver high quality projects to clients within agreed timescales and budgets.
  • To work collaboratively within a team and support the section manager in the day-to-day management responsibilities, operations, and delivery of financial targets to agreed measures.
  • To pro-actively support team members with project management, risk mitigation, scope creep and interactions with clients.
  • To work with the sub-team to win substantial business, via proposal preparation activities and relevant engagement with TWI members, as agreed with your manager.
  • To use your own expertise and that of relevant sub-team members to drive the section’s marketing plan and build the reputation of the section within the area of permeation and ageing.
  • To write high quality documents with minimal supervision.
  • To advise section manager and colleagues on technical advances and opportunities for investment with the technical area.

People management responsibilities

  • To manage the sub-team of project leaders within the NDT Inspection Services area of NDT.

Qualifications

  • Degree in relevant science/engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of two qualifications to CSWIP/PCN Level 2 in NDT.
  • A PhD in relevant science or engineering discipline.
  • You will preferably be working towards, or hold, Incorporated or Chartered status linked to membership of a relevant professional institute.
  • Project management or leadership qualifications.

Skills

  • Experience of managing teams and mentoring individuals.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and teamwork
  • Project management and experience of managing resources to ensure successful delivery of projects
  • Good understanding of business and financial drivers.

Specific relevant experience

  • Sound technical background in NDE technologies. 
  • Experience of managing complex technology development or deployment projects.
  • Experience of preparing proposals and managing large, multidisciplinary projects, such as Joint Industry projects. 
  • Experience of leading the co-ordination of business activities.
