UK Operations Officer

HoverAid ( https://uk.hoveraid.org/ ) is a Christian humanitarian charity providing medical care, community health programmes, and emergency relief to isolated communities in Madagascar. We engineer and use hovercraft and other means to reach the unreachable. Our UK activities focus on supporter engagement, fund raising, and maintaining & developing our fleet of hovercraft. We have an office in Babraham, outside Cambridge, a workshop in Sussex and active collaborations with Cambridge University, Ricardo, Ansys and others.

We are looking for a UK Operations Officer to support the CEO on the day-to-day running of HoverAid UK. In particular to:

  • Maintain contact with the wider UK team including staff, volunteers (currently around 20 including 5 regular people and 15 events-only), summer interns; encouraging others to “Join us”; Establishing and managing volunteer / intern agreements for all
  • Manage the main Babraham office; maintaining and improving the working environment, paying bills, actioning incoming correspondence, subscriptions, dealing with sub-tenants and landlady; all aspects of health and safety in the office
  • Maintain the office systems and website; deploying IT expert and support resources as required; contributing content to the website and social media when requested
  • Maintain physical and on-line (Sharepoint) storage so that documents and data are accessible, secure, and current
  • Maintain the suite of Policies, Procedures, Processes for all HA UK activities
  • Make connections with the HA Madagascar team, address queries, build relationships
  • Support the CEO in addressing general administration and operational issues as they arise

 

This right person will be:

  • Committed to HoverAid’s mission and purpose
  • Experienced in some / all of finance, administration, management, and communications
  • Respectful of HoverAid’s history, and long term loyal community of “friends”
  • Competent in MS Office (especially Word and Excel), understanding of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and accounting systems, and GDPR
  • Resilient to pressure and able to thrive in a small, flexible environment
  • Self-motivating to plan and meet agreed and self-imposed deadlines 

 

Time commitment; Payment and Conditions

This is a paid position based primarily in the HoverAid office in Babraham. We anticipate a requirement for 2 days per week. Salary will be in line with similar roles in the not-for-profit sector.
