Working Effectively across Cultures in Engineering


Successful global engineers are not born that way; they develop into it.

The ability to work across cultures is not instinctive. In fact, most engineers who manage the process successfully find the challenges complex and difficult. Those who take a purely instinctive, take-me-as-I-am, approach soon face breakdowns in communications and relationships which will compromise their organisation's ability to unlock the potential of its diverse workforce and / or fulfil its global ambitions.


Learning outcomes

By the end of the workshop, participants will:

  • understand why counterparts from other cultures can have differing approaches and attitudes to basic business variables, including: time, planning, communication style, team leadership, trust and relationship building, problem-solving
  • have an understanding of their own preferred leadership and communication style
  • have defined the broad personal competencies needed to succeed in the global workplace
  • have learn best strategies for effective learning across cultures

Key differences in basic beliefs and values which affect working style in different cultures

Different approaches to building trust-based relationships and an effective team.

How to build productive international relationships - an understanding of the competencies that make the difference when working internationally.
