ViewRanger partners with ‘Mountain Biking UK’ magazine for trail publishing

11-02-2014

Britain’s best-selling mountain biking magazine, Mountain Biking UK (MBUK), and ViewRanger, the leading outdoors GPS navigation app, have partnered to deliver downloadable mountain bike trail guides for smartphones and tablets.

Beginning with its celebrated 300th issue, Mountain Biking UK magazine is publishing its recommended rides through the ViewRanger app.  From February 2014, route guides printed in MBUK’s Big Ride section will, at the same time, be made available digitally in the ViewRanger app, allowing the ride guides and maps to be downloaded and taken out on the trail.

Each MBUK branded route includes detailed descriptions, photographs and advice on the difficulty, length and elevation to help mountain bikers select the most appropriate trail. You can follow MBUK within the ViewRanger app to see their latest routes in your ViewRanger Activity Feed as soon as they are published each month.

Once downloaded, the route is visible on a map via the free ViewRanger app, along with your real-time location using GPS. All this functionality, including active navigation and a sports computer showing vital statistics, such as total distance covered and average speed, is included within the app and can be viewed without a mobile signal.

When following a MBUK Big Ride route guide the ViewRanger app will accurately show your location and track on a map. The app also includes power saving features to ensure your smartphone battery lasts  a full day's riding.

The MBUK route guides can be combined with a range of free map layers available within the ViewRanger app, including OpenCycleMap.  High quality topographic maps from Ordnance Survey can be purchased in-app, by the tile, or by area

ViewRanger is free to download and is available on Apple, Android, Kindle Fire Symbian and Black Berry10 devices.
