Finalists announced in new Singapore-Cambridge startup competition

31-05-2013

(BUSINESS WIRE)-Three technology startups from Singapore are in the running to win a new mentorship competition run by leading UK software company Red Gate and Singapore’s Infocomm Development Authority (IDA).

From what we’ve seen, there are some very cool things happening in Singapore’s startup sector at the moment.

The winners will receive an all-expenses paid trip to Red Gate’s Cambridge headquarters, where they’ll work for six weeks alongside the team that transformed Red Gate from a startup to a global technology business.

Taylor Vinters, a Cambridge-based law firm that specializes in technology and investment, will offer the winners extra support during their trip, introducing them to representatives from Cambridge’s world-class venture capital and technology community.

“First of its kind”

The competition was launched earlier this year at the Cambridge Connection, a networking forum aimed at strengthening the ties between the technology hubs in Cambridge and Singapore.

“It’s been tremendously exciting to work with the IDA on this mentoring scheme – we believe it’s the first of its kind,” said Angus Chudleigh, Head of Red Gate’s Singapore Office.

To reach the final stage of the contest, the startups saw off competition from 25 other companies in a pre-selection round and an online video-pitch to the mentoring team at Red Gate.

Gareth Marlow, Divisional Manager at Red Gate and part of the mentoring team, said, “From what we’ve seen, there are some very cool things happening in Singapore’s startup sector at the moment.

“It’s fantastic that Red Gate has the opportunity to support their innovations, and I’m eager to see what we can learn from each other in September.”

Tim Pullan, head of Taylor Vinters’ Asia office said, “Following the recent successful launch of the Cambridge Connection two tech cities initiative in May, this exciting competition is further evidence of real deals being done, and shows tangible collaboration, investment, and strategic partnerships between the Singapore and Cambridge tech communities.”

Final judging round kicks off June 4

The winner will be announced in June, following a pitching session at Asia’s largest technology conference, Echelon 2013, held in Singapore. The finalists will present the full case for their businesses to a judging panel of Red Gate and IDA representatives.

The finalists are:

  • Novatap, the company behind dockPHP, a drag-and-drop interface for building websites.
  • Sent.ly, a service that lets web applications send and receive SMS messages.
  • triibe, a web-based application to help businesses gather customer feedback.
