The unique award encourages entrepreneurial spirit, and recognises the contribution of people who inspire others with their vision, leadership and achievement. The regional winners were announced at the London and South East Regional Awards dinner, held on Monday night in London, and hosted by BBC Reporter Jeremy Vine.
Previously a founder of Smallworld; which was listed on NASDAQ in 1996 and sold to GE Energy for £ 214 million in 2000; Richard was part of a small team who founded Ubisense in 2002.
Richard’s relentless energy and enthusiasm have been a driving force behind the growth of Ubisense, which now has BMW, Aston Martin, Airbus, Fiat and Caterpillar as its customers. Recognising the opportunity within worldwide manufacturers, who were seeking pioneering new methods of production and new levels of automation, Ubisense has targeted global high value manufacturing markets with significant success.
Recognising the importance of Personnel Safety within the oil and gas industry has also opened up new markets for Ubisense. The company recently announced the availability of their Intrinsically Safe (IS) Tag, as part of the Ubisense Plant Access Manager Personnel Safety System. Having gained the highest level of intrinsically safe certification worldwide, the Ubisense IS Tag is being used by a number of petrochemical and mining customers.

Turnover increased by around 50% during 2009, despite the world’s deepest ever recession.
