PraxisUnico welcomes Government initiative to support clinical research collaboration

02-03-2011

PraxisUnico welcomes the Government’s initiative to extend the existing range of model research agreements to include agreements between companies, universities and the NHS.

The Government announced the new model Industry Collaborative Research Agreement (mICRA) on 23 February, and this will make a welcome addition to the existing Lambert and Brunswick model agreements which are already making a contribution to the streamlining of collaborative research.

Dr Phil Clare, PraxisUnico Chairman commented, “This initiative recognises the importance of the UK’s universities, alongside the NHS, in contributing to industry research and development into new and improved products and treatments for the benefit of patients. These collaborations are one way in which UK universities contribute to the improvement in the health of individuals and the reduction in costs to the NHS, and support the growth of the economy. We are grateful for the tremendous efforts made by the representatives of many PraxisUnico members in supporting the development of these contracts. Like all good agreements we are sure that they will continue to be refined in practice; they are an excellent starting point, and should contribute to the quicker initiation of clinical trials.”
