Sentec, the world leading supplier of smart grid and metering technology, was honoured recently at a Buckingham Palace reception for its Sterling technology, which won the Queen’s Award for Enterprise for Innovation.

The Sterling technology is at the heart of highly innovative smart meters including both the Sensus iPerl smart water meter, currently being installed across the US and the Aquiba A200 smart water meter offered in the Australian market. This is the second year in a row that the company has been honoured with a Queen’s Award.
Sentec’s CTO, Dr Edward Colby, and marketing manager, Dr Berenice Mann, attended the reception at the invitation of HM The Queen. In his role as leader of Sentec’s research and development (R&D), Dr Colby was heavily involved in the development of the innovative flow sensor – a vital component of Sentec’s smart water metering offering. Dr Mann, meanwhile, was responsible for the successful commercialisation and marketing of the Sterling technology via Sentec’s joint venture smart water meter, Aquiba.
At the reception, The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh greeted guests in the State Rooms. The Duke of Kent was also in attendance.
Last month, the Lord Lieutenant, Hugh Duberley, visited Sentec in Cambridge to present the Queen’s Award to CEO Mark England. He was accompanied by the Mayor of Cambridge, Ian Nimmo-Smith.
Following the reception, Dr Edward Colby, commented, “The invitation from HM the Queen provides recognition for the importance of the work we are engaged in here at Sentec. As demand for water increases, it’s crucial that we are able to measure and manage it accurately to ensure that this precious resource is not squandered. Already active in smart meters around the world, we are confident that out Sterling technology will play a continued role in water management in the years ahead.”
