Sentec, the smart grid and smart metering specialist, has announced that it is collaborating with SELEX Galileo, experts in the design, development and manufacture of sensor and data exploitation systems to launch GridKey – a low voltage (LV) monitoring solution that uses Sentec’s innovative Iris sensor technology.
Sentec collaborates with SELEX Galileo to launch GridKey
GridKey is a LV substation monitoring system developed for Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) who wish to monitor and assess the performance of their distribution assets. Using Sentec’s proprietary Iris sensor technology, GridKey can be retro-fitted to the feeders of a substation without interrupting supply to customers. It helps to reduce network maintenance costs, improve security of supply and identify losses. It can also significantly increase an operator’s knowledge of the state of their LV grid by providing continuous remote monitoring of the substations as well as timely warnings, status and loading information.
Oliver Burstall, COO and leading GridKey for Sentec, said: “As utilities embrace the concept of a Smart Grid, demand is rising for cost-effective, accurate and robust sensing solutions that can be easily integrated with existing communications and IT systems. The development of GridKey will allow DNOs to collect invaluable data including power quality information and warnings, without disruption to electricity supply or regular maintenance requirements. In addition DNOs will have access to information which will allow them to be able to predict and prevent imminent failures, providing a better service to the consumer.”
The geometry and size of the sensor means that it can be fitted quickly and allows it to instrument substations where competing systems cannot be installed. The GridKey sensor is designed to operate in difficult conditions, robust to weather, damp or physical movements, Installation is a rapid and one off process with no on-site calibration requirements.
