Tame your computer: copying values

In her weekly series for Cambridge Network members, software training expert Karen Roem offers handy tips to help you 'Tame your computer'.

This week she offers advice on how to quickly copy the data from a previous record in Microsoft Access ...

Last week I did two one-to-one training sessions, helping people get more out of this powerful, yet easy-to-use, database management program.

As is often the case with existing databases, the data to be analysed wasn't as consistent as we'd like it to be, with quite a few typos. (Dyslexics of the world untie!) So both of them were really thrilled with the keyboard shortcut to quickly copy the value of the same field in the previous record.

Here's how:

1. Open the table or form in Datasheet view.

2. Click in the field in which you want to insert the value.

3. Press + (apostrophe).

By the way, the steps also work in Form View but unless you're psychic or remember what you entered in the previous record, this won't do you any good.
