Dragonmobility Ltd, one of the clients for whom axiom-e is engaged as Finance Director, has been short-listed for Innovative Business of the Year, one of the categories in the Startups of the Year Awards 2006 sponsored by StartUps.co.uk and NatWest bank.
Dragonmobility shortlisted for Innovative Business of the Year award
The short listing judges were impressed by Dragonmobility's concept and potential, placing the business among a handful of lucky finalists selected from hundreds of entries.
Dragonmobility (www.dragonmobility.com), designs and manufactures innovative elevating powered wheelchairs with customised seating. These enhance users' independence and access, facilitating socialisation and participation in education and work.
Earlier this year a boy from USA came to collect his chair from the Cambridge-based company. A manufacturer who met the boy at a conference in America commented that 'NASA would be proud to have created that chair. The design, materials and workmanship are far beyond anything on the market, including ours.'
Dan Everard, Managing Director of Dragonmobility commented: 'We are thrilled to be a finalist in the 'Innovative Business' category and very much look forward to the event in October. It's great that the unique nature of our products has been recognised by Startups.co.uk and the judges. We expect that this will help to make individuals and health and disability advisers more aware of how early and appropriate mobility can benefit users.'
Dan remarked that he is 'delighted that Dragonmobility is in with a chance of winning not only the Innovative Business category but also the much-coveted 'NatWest Startups Business of the Year' prize.'
The company's founder and product designer then expressed his thanks for 'the dedication and hard work of our high-quality staff.' Dan also commented that he is 'very conscious of the network of other small businesses that contribute the component parts, finishing processes and services that help to make our products so special'.
The company is hosting a barbeque for staff, sub-contractors and other local supporters on Friday 1st September from 2pm at the company's premises as a way of thanking them for their support and commitment.
Now in its third year, the Startups Awards continues in its quest to recognise, celebrate and reward the UK's best business startups from the 400,000 or so businesses started each year.
