PA Consulting outlines new approach to engineering change risk-analysis

PA Consulting Group to outline new approach to engineering change risk-analysis during product design - which helps to preserve profit margins.

Tido Eger from PA Consulting Group – the leading international management, systems and technology consultancy – will outline a new approach to improve risk-analysis in engineering change management in his paper entitled “Engineering Change Analysis during Ongoing Product Development” to be given at the 16th International Conference on Engineering Design (ICED),  (11.00 hrs) Tuesday, 29th August 2007, at the Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie in Paris, France.

Tido Eger, a consultant in product and process engineering at PA’s Cambridge technology centre in the UK, will consider current risk analysis practice for engineering change in industry and suggest an approach and tools which can improve this, taking likelihood and the cost of change propagation between product parts into account.

To assess engineering risk, designers require a good understanding of the product and the development process. If engineering changes are underestimated, the impact on the project budget or time-to-market can be severe. Even a relatively modest time delay can greatly compromise planned product profit margins. With a complex product, few designers have sufficient overview during the product development process to assess change implementation alternatives and identify the best solution. This new approach enables more accurate risk analysis during evolving product design.

The paper, co-authored by Dr Claudia M Eckert and Professor P John Clarkson from the University of Cambridge, will be of particular value to senior project managers and engineering managers, as well as academics in the field of engineering design and development.

In his presentation, Tido Eger will draw from his experience in commercial manufacturing, design and engineering at PA Consulting Group as well as from his previous research in engineering design at the University of Cambridge, UK.
