Software training expert Karen Roem offers handy tips to help you 'Tame your computer' in her weekly series for Cambridge Network members. This week she describes how to fill a range of cells with the same entry (Microsoft Excel*) ...
Tame your computer - faster filling
In one of my old tips I explained how you can use Excel's AutoFill feature to quickly fill a range, either with a series of labels or values or with copies of a particular value or formula.
Even though this is still one of my favourite Excel tools, I wonder whether you know about the other quick way to fill a range of cells with the same entry?
1. Select the range of cells you want to fill with the same entry.
2. Type the text or value that is to be repeated.
3. Press [CTRL] + [ENTER].
The text or value is simply copied into all selected cells, saving you quite a few clicks compared to the AutoFill feature or a "normal" copy and paste.
* Unless stated otherwise, these tips were written for Microsoft Office 2003.
Most of what is covered however will also apply to earlier versions.
