ViewRanger Slovenia is the result of a partnership between Augmentra Ltd, a leading innovator in mobile personal navigation software, and Globalvision PIS d.o.o., a Slovenian GIS specialist.

ViewRanger's Ordnance Survey maps of the UK have proved very popular with serious sportspeople and leisure ramblers alike and access to detailed topographical maps of Slovenia at 1:50,000 and 1:25,000 scales are set to make this relatively unknown country more accessible to walkers, cavers and tourists. City maps at 1:5,000 scale are to follow shortly.

"The Slovene Alpine Association has been testing ViewRanger for a while with great results," said Dusan Pecek, CEO of Globalvision. "Slovenia is a beautiful country and an ultimate outdoor destination with Alpine and Mediterranean areas, and large areas of forest. It offers great opportunities for skiing, mountain biking, walking and nature spotting, and ViewRanger's 'off-road sat nav' system is ideal for anyone taking to the outdoors."

"We are delighted to add Slovenia to our rapidly growing list of maps available for ViewRanger," said Craig Wareham, co-founder of Augmentra. "Globalvision has fantastic local knowledge and consumer mapping experience, so by working together we can offer the ideal outdoor activity companion both for Slovenia residents and tourists exploring the wonderful scenery."

ViewRanger provides instant access to relevant local maps, and uses GPS to show your exact location on a moving display. Its 3D panoramic graphics identify features of interest in the landscape including towns and villages, mountain peaks, and churches, and a 'Buddy Beacon' helps keep track of companions. There is also a sports computer for comparing routes and performance, and ViewRanger integrates with the phone's camera to link images and video clips to specific map locations creating a multimedia log of your trip.

Slovenian mapping will be available as a download from Globalvision d.o.o. and It will also be available direct to handset via over-the-air delivery. Globalvision will provide Slovene language customer support.

ViewRanger was developed to be intuitive to use and offer the functionality demanded by both seasoned outdoor enthusiasts and casual users. Craig explains:

"We have designed ViewRanger to be easy-to-use so that you can be spontaneous as well as creating carefully planned trips. ViewRanger will show you where to go, tell you how far you've gone, and show you how to get back to your starting point."

ViewRanger runs on the Symbian S60 smartphone platform and transforms a Nokia N95, Nokia 6110 or other S60 handset into a self-contained, full-featured trail navigation system. The high-resolution screen is ideal for displaying the fine detail of 1:50,000 or 1:25,000 scale maps.

Features include: full colour topographic mapping; 3D panoramic viewpoint maps; real time access to information via mobile data services; Buddy Beacon to keep track of companions; TripView sports computer; and an uploadable TravelLog to enable family and friends to see photos and descriptions of where you've been.

Maps of the whole of Slovenia are available at 1:50,000 scale and 1:25,000 scale. 100km2 map tiles at 1:25,000 scale are available to download over-the-air. Maps for Great Britain and Finland are also available from
