Tonejet scoops “disruptive” Killer Technology award

30-03-2009

Tonejet was the delighted recipient of the Killer Technology category at the 'Business Weekly' Awards 2008, held in Queen’s College in Cambridge.

Tonejet was crowned winner in recognition of its unique electro-static drop-on-demand digital print engine which can print photographic quality images directly onto a vast array of materials, including paperboard, plastic film and metal. With Tonejet’s digital print technology already driving an evolution within the canning industry, wider adoption will change the way the industrial printing sector prints.

The new Killer Technology category was launched this year and captured the imagination of the East of England technology and life sciences communities, and is given to a company that has pioneered a technology deemed truly disruptive and likely to have a future impact on the way we live or work.

Ian Northen of award sponsor BDO Stoy Hayward paid tribute to Tonejet, “Tonejet brings the benefits of digital printing to the high volume, multi-billion dollar markets where image quality, cost, reliability and throughput are critical factors. The technology allows images of the man or woman of the moment to be printed onto drinks cans the day after they have hit the headlines - whether that be Barack Obama after entering the White House or a gold medalist at the London Olympics.”

In response, Ray Southam CEO of Tonejet (pictured receiving the award), said, “This is a great occasion. To be recognised as an innovative and unique technology by industry experts after years of hard work is a milestone for Tonejet and our digital print engine. The print industry is evolving fast and this award highlights that Tonejet is at the forefront.”

The Business Weekly Awards are the longest-running B2B awards in the UK and are also acknowledged as the most rigorously judged. The panel made up of respected entrepreneurs and business leaders ensured that competition was tough. Almost 200 leading executives and business influencers attended the 19th annual Awards, sponsored by top law firm Eversheds, Royal Bank of Scotland, BAA Stansted and property specialist SEGRO.
