Bio science community gets a chance to collaborate on ideas

MedImmune and Pfizer, based at Granta Park, hosted a Scientific Poster Event at the Park’s new meeting facility within the Riverside development last week, attended by over 70 members of the local scientific community.

The event was arranged in order to encourage networking and collaboration. Companies displayed and discussed their research and development findings throughout the afternoon.

The event began with a welcome by Granta Park Marketing & Asset Manager Roz Bird and presentations by Jane Osbourn, Site Leader and Vice President Research at MedImmune and Ruth McKernan, Chief Scientific Officer at Pfizer and Head of Pfizer Regenerative Medicine.

In addition to posters from MedImmune and Pfizer, companies and organisations taking part included Lonza Biologics, Cresset BioMolecular Discovery Ltd, Phico Therapeutics, the Department of Neurobiology at The University of Chicago, Stem Cell Sciences (UK) Ltd, Accelrys Ltd, Capsugel, Universal Sensors Ltd, Immibio Ltd, TTP Lab Tech Ltd and Immbio.

Explaining the reasons behind Granta Park holding the event Roz Bird said: “This is all part of our aim to make Granta Park a special science park community that our customers can benefit from. Events like this offer them the chance to network and collaborate in an environment which can motivate their staff and impress their clients.”

Said Ruth McKernan: “'I found out about two new companies and a couple of useful techniques being developed right on our doorstep. We should do this more often!”

Commenting on the standard of the posters Jane Osbourn said: “The event really brought home the fantastic quality of the science base in the local area, and was very useful in identifying potential collaborations and opportunities for information sharing.”
