Secure telephone specialist C3 upgrades vital prison platform

10-03-2016

Cambridge computer telephony specialist C3 has completed a full upgrade of a secure prison phone system which allows inmates to talk to their family on the outside. The platform, used in some of the UK’s highest profile prisons and secure hospitals, has been enhanced and given a complete technology refresh at Isle of Man Prison.

  • The PTS (Prisoner Telephony System) provides a vital link for inmates to keep in touch with relatives and their legal team using access only to pre-approved numbers.
  • The latest improvements and increased investment mark a decade-long relationship between C3 and the island’s prison authorities.

C3 has supplied the Gateway platform since 2006 and oversaw the expansion and transfer of the telephony system when a new £42million prison at Jurby was opened in August, 2008.

Senior Works Officer with the Isle of Man Prison and Probation Service Jimmy Hughes said “C3’s after sales support has been excellent and we are pleased to continue our relationship in providing this mission critical service to Manx prison.”

C3 Sales Director John Wood said: “Our Gateway system is continually under review and development and we are always striving for improvements and listening to feedback to keep it at the forefront of communication technology. The upgraded platform offers future multi-channel expansion and a cost-effective solution which provides a crucial service for inmates while giving staff control over calls.

“We have enjoyed a long working relationship with Isle of Man Prison and our partners at Manx Telecom. We also provide a number of services to all fixed and mobile users on the Isle of Man, and we look forward to many more years of successful collaboration.”

The only prison on the island, Isle of Man Prison was founded in 1891 in Douglas, the island’s capital.

In 2008 it moved to a new, state-of-the-art site in the parish of Jurby, increasing capacity and facilities available to inmates. The medium security facility has capacity for 144, with all prisoners in single cells.

C3 has 25 years’ experience in supplying specialist computer telephony platforms and associated applications.

Clients include Vodafone, BP, ITV, Cambridge University and Anglian Water.
