Arthur Rank Hospice Charity and Huntingdon Gymnastics Club have joined forces to bring a unique family-friendly 5K to Huntingdon’s riverside in July. Described as 5K of fast, frothy fun, Bubble Rush is the first and only such event in the region and one of just a few of its kind across the world!
Brand new Bubble Rush comes to Huntingdon in July
A few lucky children were treated to an exclusive preview recently when one of the Bubble Rush cannons visited Huntingdon Gymnastic Club’s playing field, giving them a chance to run, jump and play with a comparatively small amount of white and blue bubbles. If their reaction is anything to go by, the colourful event will be a memorable highlight of the summer when it takes place at Riverside Park in Huntingdon from midday on Sunday 17 July. The whole family as well as friends, community groups and work colleagues are invited to sign up and take part, with entries open to all ages and abilities and adults encouraged to be big kids too!
Each of the five stations along the route will jet out a different colour of foam, surprising the senses of touch, sight and smell. ‘Bubblers’ are encouraged to accessorise with tutus, sunglasses, wings and wigs to stop them getting into ‘bubble-trouble’ as they run, jog, walk, dance, hop, or pushchair around the route all while foam cannons blow out 30 cubic metres of milkshake froth a minute. Highly trained Bubble Commando teams, will be there to ensure everyone is safely soapsud’d with colour.
Tasha Auburn, Events Officer at Arthur Rank Hospice Charity, says: “We’re delighted to be bringing this exclusive, super-fun event to Huntingdon. We’ve never done anything quite like it before and can’t wait to soak up the atmosphere on the day itself. With MCs getting everyone in the mood before the 5K foam-fest begins, friends and family offering each other ‘bubble cuddles’ along the route and participants knowing they’re raising funds for two great local causes, we think Bubble Rush will bring a real buzz to the area this summer.”
Adam Scott, Club Manager at Huntingdon Gymnastics Club adds: “Each year we run a gymnastics event: this year we wanted to do something in the wider community, to engage with people that we don’t see at the club and we are delighted to work alongside another great charity, Arthur Rank Hospice Charity to raise the profile of both charities in the Huntingdonshire area.”
Wannabe bubblers are invited to take advantage of the limited early bird offer of £17.50 for adults and £10 for children by registering now at http://www.arhc.org.uk/bubble-rush-registration.asp or by calling 01223 723115.
After 27 May, the registration fees increase by £5. Participants receive a finisher’s medal as well as a free white Bubble Rush branded t-shirt to wear on the day, although if all goes according to plan it will not remain white for long!
Arthur Rank Hospice Charity supports people in Cambridgeshire living with an advanced serious illness or a life-limiting condition and those who need end-of-life care. Our ‘Outstanding’ services are provided free of charge to patients and their families.
We care for more than 4,100 patients each year at our Hospice in Cambridge, the Alan Hudson Day Treatment Centre in Wisbech and in patients’ own homes via the Arthur Rank Community Team. This care supports people to improve their quality of life and fulfil their end of their life choices.
It will cost £10.5 million in 2021/2022 to run our services, which are provided free of charge to patients and their loved ones. We have currently secured £6.98 million from the NHS, meaning that £3.52 million needs to be raised through donations, fundraising activities and trading. We are extremely grateful to our local community for the continual dedication, commitment and generosity they show in supporting us to meet this target.
