Having made the move to its new state-of-the-art home, Arthur Rank Hospice Charity is now looking towards the end of the year and is on a search for exceptional individuals and businesses to help with its Christmas tree recycling scheme!
Team members needed to collaborate with Arthur Rank’s annual Christmas tree collection!
It will be the second year for the initiative, which had a successful first year, when a fabulous team of volunteers helped collect 406 trees, raising just shy of £3000.
Those volunteering will be able to help with both promoting the collection by leafleting between 27 December and 5 January, and driving across Cambridge on 6 and 7 January collecting old Christmas trees in a ‘treasure hunt for trees’. The Charity also hopes to find generous supporters who will donate their vehicles (preferably with drivers!) for the collection.
The Christmas tree recycling scheme is a fantastically simple idea. Anyone who lives in postcode areas CB1, CB2, CB22, CB3, CB4 and CB5 and doesn’t want to deal with the hassle of getting rid of their tree can register online to have it collected by one of the Charity’s little helpers. For a small donation, the voluntary tree collection team will collect the trees and take them to Cambridge City Council’s waste management depot to be composted.
Chloe Christine-Wallis, Community Fundraiser at the Charity, adds: “We’re really excited to run this fundraising initiative again after the success of 2016’s collection, but we do need your help! The great thing about volunteering for this scheme is that it’s a limited amount of time so it would work really well for companies who have volunteering days available to donate to charity for example. It’s great fun too of course and we will be thanking helpers via our digital media platforms, so it’s a brilliant way to build really fun and positive engagement between colleagues, companies and your customers.”
If you would like to volunteer or would be interested in offering sponsorship in some way please email email@example.com or call 01223 675888. Alternatively, for further details, to register for a tree to be collected or to find answers to some frequently asked questions please visit: arhc.org.uk/treerecycling. £2 million remains to be raised for the Hospice’s new home and funds raised from the scheme will be directed specifically towards the £10.5 million appeal.
Arthur Rank Hospice Charity supports people in Cambridgeshire living with an advanced serious illness or a life-limiting condition and those who need end-of-life care. Our ‘Outstanding’ services are provided free of charge to patients and their families.
We care for more than 4,100 patients each year at our Hospice in Cambridge, the Alan Hudson Day Treatment Centre in Wisbech and in patients’ own homes via the Arthur Rank Community Team. This care supports people to improve their quality of life and fulfil their end of their life choices.
It will cost £10.5 million in 2021/2022 to run our services, which are provided free of charge to patients and their loved ones. We have currently secured £6.98 million from the NHS, meaning that £3.52 million needs to be raised through donations, fundraising activities and trading. We are extremely grateful to our local community for the continual dedication, commitment and generosity they show in supporting us to meet this target.
