Runners encouraged to come along for pre-race tips from Anglia Ruskin experts
The event, at Anglia Ruskin’s Cambridge campus, is a first for the race, which takes place the next day, and will allow runners to get the inside track on fuelling strategies, race pacing and much more ahead of the Cambridge Half Marathon, organised by OSB Events.
Dr Justin Roberts, Senior Lecturer in Sports and Exercise Nutrition, will talk about considerations for race-day nourishment, including discussing simple strategies to help achieve goals.
Dr Dan Gordon, Principal Lecturer in Exercise Physiology, will speak about practical ways to pace the run, improve finishing times and make the experience more enjoyable.
A third talk will be given by athletes from the Saucony Hurricanes, who will answer questions about the race and provide guidance on race preparation and strategies.
Booking is not necessary and talk times can be found at https://www.anglia.ac.uk/community-engagement/cambridge-half-marathon/cambridge-half-marathon-expo
As well as the expert talks, the Expo will have a number of commercial running-related stalls and food outlets. For those who have confirmed with OSB, runners can collect their race packs at the Expo and pay a visit to the Saucony Stride Lab.
The Cambridge Centre for Sport and Exercise Sciences “Exercise Testing Team” will be holding one-to-one advice clinics and demonstrating the different testing services that are available. Those feeling the strain after weeks of training can also visit the Sports Injury Clinic Team for advice.
Dr James Johnstone, Anglia Ruskin’s Head of Department for Sport and Exercise Sciences, said: “We are looking forward to welcoming runners onto our campus to listen to our expert advice and take a look at some of the facilities we can offer. Anglia Ruskin University has been associated with the Cambridge Half Marathon for several years and this expo will be a hugely positive addition to this successful event.”
Adam Moffat, Director, OSB Events, said: “We are delighted to be working with Anglia Ruskin University (ARU), to launch this exciting new Race Expo linked to the 2018 Cambridge Half Marathon. The expo feels like the next step forward for the event, which again sold out its entire race slots in just three days.
“With a number of free seminars and interactive exhibitions this is a great opportunity for both those who are racing and anyone with an interest in sport to pop along to ARU and join in the fun.”
The race itself takes place on Sunday, 4 March. Research by Anglia Ruskin University revealed the 2017 event boosted the city’s economy by around £226,000.
