Explore Independent Cambridge - Cambridge Cookery

With the help of Independent Cambridge - the community of ‘real’ Cambridge - Cambridge Network continues its weekly exploration of the best independent shops, cafés, restaurants, people, businesses, venues and events in Cambridge and the surrounding area. This week: Cambridge Cookery.

Cambridge independents know how to excel, and Cambridge Cookery does just that. Winners of UK’s Best Cookery School 2013 and shortlisted for the Food and Travel Reader Awards Best Cookery School 2014, the School itself offers some 250 classes every year as well as high-octane team-building events and private parties.

But there’s much more! In 2015, a café, bakery, wine bar and bistro were opened alongside the school – ensuring that many more people could enjoy top-quality food and drink in this beautiful setting. Staffed by top chefs and with an absolute commitment to sustainability, high welfare, local and organic produce, the Café and Bistro has quickly become a beacon for locals and was recently given a Silver Award for its sustainability.

The former stonemasons’ brick building has been given a stylish Scandinavian-influenced make-over and overlooks a large lawn with a terrace – perfect for brunch (Tuesday to Sunday) and wine and tapas on Friday evenings. Along with yoga and brunch on the lawn, and live jazz on Friday nights, there’s the hugely popular Saturday night Bistro serving a set chef’s choice seasonal menu. Finally, extending a warm welcome to all four-legged visitors (who come for the free handmade dog biscuits), this independent makes all their guests feel very special.
