EY Cambridge appoints Carolyn Norfolk to lead growth in Indirect Tax across the East of England
A specialist in Indirect Tax and budding triathlete, Carolyn has nearly 20 years’ experience advising clients on all aspects of VAT including from managing compliance effectively, to interpreting new legislation and case law to help their businesses stay at the forefront of technical developments. Carolyn also has extensive experience in managing contentious matters with HMRC. She previously worked at PwC in London for 15 years, advising clients operating in the middle market and more recently joined their Milton Keynes office to build the firm’s Indirect Tax offering in the Home Counties.
She joins EY to lead on the expansion of the Indirect Tax team in Cambridge and to help drive focus on the broader market agenda for the East of England team, bringing with her considerable experience of working with clients in the Private market and higher education sectors.
She said: “I’m delighted to have joined EY in Cambridge at a time when the business is focused on building and expanding its Indirect Tax team and supporting clients across the East of England. I was attracted to EY and the Cambridge office as it plays a key part in the local community and has ambitious plans to increase its market share in the middle market, of which the region has a plenty of growing businesses and inspirational entrepreneurs. I’m really looking forward to exploring new opportunities with the team and expanding our presence in the region.”
Stuart Wilkinson, Office Managing Partner at EY in Cambridge added: “I’m really pleased to welcome Carolyn to the team, to lead growth within Indirect Tax across the East of England. Her expertise and experience will support our plans to explore new opportunities and offer an even more exceptional service to our existing clients.
“Carolyn’s appointment comes at a time of expansion for the EY in the region, having announced the appointment of Adrian Bennett, to lead business development in the middle market in the summer. We’ve also just announced the recruitment of 21 new graduates and business apprentices to the team, who started in September and were pleased to support a further 12 ‘virtual’ Summer Intern Placement positions, despite our offices being closed.”
In her spare time Carolyn is a Trustee of Acorn Childcare, a charity that works with local communities to promote and support access to high quality childcare to all. She is also keen runner, having completed several half marathons and recently took up triathlon. During lockdown she completed her first COVID-19 sprint triathlon and hopes to compete in more events in the future.
