Christmas tree collection to raise money for EACH

After the excitement and buzz of Christmas comes the seemingly endless month of January. The decorations are put away, but there is still a now brittle tree hanging around.

This year, East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH), in partnership with Just Helping, is offering to collect and recycle your Christmas trees in Whittlesey, Coates, St Ives, Huntingdon and St Neots in return for a charitable donation.

EACH volunteers will be collecting trees in the PE7, PE19, PE27, PE28 and PE29 postcode areas between 8am and 5pm Thursday 14 to Sunday 17 January.

Last year the charity received more than £4,000 in exchange for collecting 350 Christmas trees from Huntingdon, St Ives and surrounding villages.

Phillipa Graham, Community Fundraising Assistant, said: “We understand Christmas is going to be very different for a lot of people this year. It’s been a stressful 2020 for many, so hopefully this scheme helps take one stress away at the start of 2021. It works by supporters leaving their trees outside for our volunteers to collect, which should make it COVID-secure. The scheme will also help us to recover a bit of the money we’ve not had coming in this year as a result of fundraising activities and events being cancelled. We rely on the support of communities across the county and the rest of the region to ensure we can keep providing vital care for children and young people with life-threatening conditions, as well as support for their families.”

To ensure your tree is picked up, visit: https://just-helping.org.uk/xmas-trees to arrange your collection. Registration will open on 15 November and will close on 10 January at 11pm.

EACH is also currently looking for volunteers to drive vans on collection days and to deliver leaflets in the relevant areas. For more information visit www.each.org.uk/christmas-tree-recycling or email community@each.org.uk.
