Leading Baltic law firm, Ellex, has announced their adoption of Luminance, the leading artificial intelligence platform for the legal profession.

Leading Baltic law firm, Ellex, has announced their adoption of Luminance’s AI-powered eDiscovery software across their investigation, competition and litigation work.

Ellex, who employ over 200 lawyers based in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, were finding it increasingly unmanageable to rely solely on manual methods to review and analyse the vast datasets involved in their investigation and litigation work. As the only technology flexible and sophisticated enough to work in the Baltic languages, Ellex decided to adopt Luminance’s ground-breaking AI technology which can rapidly identify critical information and areas of interest within any type of document and any language, allowing the user to zero-in on relevant information and shape the direction of their investigation from the outset.

Ellex in Estonia recently used Luminance to conduct a competition review containing over 70,000 documents. Using Luminance’s powerful data culling tools, Ellex rapidly reduced this to just 600 documents, allowing the team to complete the bulk of their review in a matter of days. Powerful searching filters then allowed Ellex to zero-in on key areas of interest, enabling the legal team to conclude the entire review within their tight two-week deadline, confident that nothing had been missed.

Kevin Gerretz, Associate at Ellex, comments: “We were positively surprised by the power of Luminance’s AI-powered eDiscovery technology in comparison to other eDiscovery tools we had used previously…Luminance works extremely well for larger projects and we look forward to using it across our compliance work.” He continues, “We had previously struggled to find a tool that would allow us to work in Estonian as well as English, Lithuanian and Latvian. Luminance’s ability to do this is incredibly powerful and ensures that nothing is missed.”

Orianne Auger, Head of Discovery at Luminance, continued, “Litigators today have to trawl through thousands upon thousands of documents to find relevant information but, by applying a revolutionary AI-powered approach, Luminance is allowing lawyers to find that ‘needle in the haystack’ with greater efficiency and insight. We are very pleased to see that Ellex is now benefitting from Luminance’s cutting-edge, language-agnostic technology which will allow Ellex to work seamlessly with their multilingual legal matter during the course of an investigation.”

Luminance is currently used in 300 law firms and organisations worldwide. This includes all of the ‘Big Four’ accounting firms and over one-fifth of the ‘Global Top 100’ law firms such as Holland & Knight, Bird & Bird and Slaughter & May.
