Cambridge-based Acteon Communication and Learning, and HC-One received two gold awards at the annual E-learning Awards last week in London, winning the very competitive ‘E-learning Project of the Year’.
Acteon wins double gold, including ‘Project of the Year’, at the E-learning Awards
Acteon, six-time gold E-learning Award winners and finalists on six other occasions, also won gold for ‘Best use of e-learning to ensure compliance’.
Other finalists in those two competitive categories included: GlaxoSmithKline, PricewaterhouseCooper, Marks & Spencer, Vodafone and Pfizer.
Following the announcement, the award organisers @elearningawards tweeted, “Congratulations on winning the two biggest categories!”
Acteon and HC-One were also finalists in the ‘Excellence in the production of e-learning content’ category.

HC-One specialises in Dementia, Nursing, Residential and Specialist Care, with homes throughout the UK. A dynamic new business of 15,000 staff, HC-One was faced with huge challenges of staff development and engagement when it took over a large number of the struggling Southern Cross homes in 2011.
Acteon helped HC-One put an exciting new blended learning programme called ‘Touch’ at the heart of business transformation. One year after its launch, HC-One people have completed an impressive 280,000 training courses across a blend of e-learning and face-to-face programmes; staff engagement survey results are soaring and other measures of ‘kindness’ are improving.
“We have set ourselves the goal at HC-One to provide the kindest care in the UK,” said HC-One Chairman, Dr. Chai Patel. “Learning and development has to support the goals of the businesses that it operates in. That's no different in the care sector to any other sector.”
HC-One’s Chief Executive, David Spruzen, said he sees the difference the training programme is making as he visits the homes.
“I think the most fantastic aspect that goes with these awards is that when I go round homes, each person I speak to says the ‘Touch’ programme has changed the way they work and has given them much more confidence with the residents,” said David Spruzen. “As a result, they feed back that it has contributed significantly to the improvement in the quality of life for the residents and their relatives.”
Alignment with HC-One’s vision was critical to the programme’s positive impact, according to Dr. Patel. “Acteon's work has been critical to our success,” added Dr. Patel. “What's been very powerful about Acteon is actually they have worked with our vision, our values and our objectives, and we have at no point felt led away from what we wanted to achieve. They've been very keen to understand what we're trying to do, and then bring the best skills, the best talent they've got to help us achieve that.”

Cambridge-based Acteon has also been selected as finalists in this year’s Training Journal Awards in the following categories: ‘Best training programme (commercial)’, ‘E-learning Project of the Year’, ‘Best use of technology in learning’, ‘Best change management programme’, and ‘Best operational programme’.
