Anglia Ruskin is a finalist in national nursing awards

Anglia Ruskin University is a finalist in a national award for its pre-registration nursing courses – and five student midwives have also been named in the nine-person shortlist in another category.

The 2019 shortlist for the Student Nursing Times Awards has been announced and Anglia Ruskin is a finalist in the Nurse Education Provider of the Year (Pre-Registration) category, alongside six other UK universities. Courses are offered in Adult, Child and Mental Health Nursing, with various other routes into the profession including apprenticeships.

Professor Ruth Taylor, Dean of the Faculty of Health, Education, Medicine and Social Care, said: “At Anglia Ruskin University we strive to provide the best education for our nursing students so that they can be the best practitioners when they qualify as nurses. I am delighted that the team has been recognised for the work that they do.”

Final-year midwifery students Lara Carter, Becky Golics, Emily Ward, Joanna May Wilson and Rosie Ladkin have been shortlisted for the Student Midwife of the Year category.

Lara is the student midwife representative for England South on the Royal College of Midwives Student Midwife Forum. Emily is also a course rep and is, as well as Becky and Joanna, involved in their respective campus’s midwifery society. Rosie writes a regular blog talking of her experiences as a student.

Maxine Wallis-Redworth, Course Leader in Midwifery, said: “The entire midwifery team are very proud that five of our final year student midwives have been shortlisted for Student Midwife of the Year at the Student Nursing Times Awards.

“All these students are being recognised for the passion and commitment that they demonstrate to their studies, fellow students and the midwifery profession.

“Each student has made a unique contribution to their cohort by ensuring that they take a holistic approach to their midwifery practice and to wider university life.”

The awards will take place on Friday 26 April at the Grosvenor House Hotel in Park Lane, London.
