Audio Analytic’s founder and CEO, Dr Chris Mitchell, will join other entrepreneurs and tech leaders at Web Summit in Lisbon, Portugal this week to talk about our journey from start-up to the world leader in sound recognition.

Speaking at the conference’s Growth Summit on Tuesday (November 5), Chris will talk candidly about how, in order to achieve the company’s vision of giving all machines a sense of hearing, we had to collect and map the world of sounds beyond speech and music. This is something nobody else has managed to do.

Ahead of his speech, Chris said: “At a fundamental level there are two important parts of an AI company like us. You need unbiased, well-organised, expertly-labelled good quality data; and you need machine learning algorithms and a sophisticated pipeline.

“When I set out on this journey, there was what’s known as a zero-data problem. Today we employ 50 experts in AI, acoustics, signal processing and embedded software development, have received $20m of VC funding and lead this field.”

He added: “To help put our growth into perspective our Alexandria™ dataset now has over 15 million labelled sound events across over 700 label types. This puts us in the enviable position of being able to push the boundaries of sound recognition like never before, and enable product designers to design products and user experiences with an understanding of sound.”
