Three senior figures from BAE Systems, Lockheed Martin and Thales will take audience questions on Friday 2 October at a free online event held in a 3D virtual venue rather than on a conventional
video call.
The panel is co-sponsored by Capytech, a Cambridge-based company building custom e-learning, learning platforms and immersive training, and the Greater Lincolnshire Regional Defence & Security Cluster. It will be hosted by Amy O'Sullivan, the Cluster's Operations Lead.
On the panel:
- Lucy Walton, Programme Manager, Support and Services Transformation, BAE Systems
- Chris Parker, Business Development Manager, Air Training, Lockheed Martin UK
- Jane Greenman, Chief Operating Officer for Saudi Arabia and Central Asia, Thales
All three are speaking from their own experience in a personal capacity, not on behalf of their employers.
The question under discussion is whether AI-powered learning can become defence's first line of support, or, put more directly, how much of the cost, downtime and support burden across the
sector traces back to somebody not knowing something.
This is NOT a webinar
What sets the event apart is the venue. Attendees enter a virtual arena as avatars, a stage with the panellists live on screens the size of a building, tiered seating, and other attendees they can see and walk over to. It runs in a standard web browser, with nothing to install and no VR headset required.
After the panel, branded booths open at the back of the arena for half an hour of open networking.
"Online events have got worse, not better," said Jason Satterly of Capytech. "You join a call, you watch a grid of faces, you leave, and nobody has met anybody. We wanted a room where you can see who turned up, walk over and actually talk to them."
