Cambridge University Business School names Saatchi & Saatchi head as first CEO-in-Residenc...

The Judge Institute of Management, Cambridge University's business school, today announced the appointment of Kevin Roberts of Saatchi & Saatchi as its inaugural CEO in Residence.

The Judge Institute has established the new two-year post for high-profile CEOs of international corporations to promote its emphasis on blending scholarship with business practice.

Mr Roberts' responsibilities as CEO in Residence include presenting a series of lectures to Judge Institute students and alumni, participating in executive education programmes and mentoring MBA students. Mr Roberts will also write for the Institute's publications on business issues selected by students.

The Director of the Judge Institute, Professor Sandra Dawson, said that the CEO in Residence position will strengthen the mutually beneficial relationship between students and the companies that will employ them.

'Our students already participate in many company-based projects, but we wanted to establish a relationship between academia and business actually within the business school and offer a sense of belonging to a specific chief executive.'

'A CEO in Residence is unique to Cambridge and offers our students a wonderful opportunity to regularly access the thinking of an international business leader,' Professor Dawson said.

Mr Roberts, who as CEO Worldwide of Saatchi & Saatchi heads a company with agencies in 90 countries and annual billings of $7 billion, said he was honoured by the Judge Institute appointment.

'I'm passionate about ideas and believe that they come alive when encouraged, challenged, discussed and supported, ' Mr Roberts said.

'My role as CEO in Residence will be to encourage and inspire young people to dream, to believe and to achieve - to hit their peak every day.'I hope my experience, my views, my ideas will help them to think differently.

'I know I will draw sustenance from the students and staff at the Judge Institute. Inspiration out is, of course, a direct result of inspiration in. Cambridge University, with all its aura and traditions, inspires me. '

  • Kevin Roberts started his highly successful career in London in 1969 with Mary Quant. He worked around the world as a senior marketing executive for Gillette, Procter & Gamble, and Pepsi Cola before joining Saatchi & Saatchi as New York-based CEO in 1997.

    Roberts is co-author of Peak Performance, a study of the business lessons of successful sporting organisations.
