CBI identifies A14 as troublespot

The Confederation of British Industry yesterday (Monday) revealed its priority transport projects - and the gridlocked A14 through Cambridgeshire is one of them.

It says the road must be widened from its junction with the M11 on the outskirts of Cambridge to the M1/A1 link at Brampton to meet the demands of individuals and the economy.

The road is daily brought to a standstill by the volume of traffic using it to commute in and out of Cambridge and onto the east coast ports like Felixstowe.

The recommendation is one of dozens identified by the CBI as urgent which are being unveiled at today's national conference in Birmingham.

The organisation says that Britain's transport system is close to breaking point because of under-investment and unacceptable delay in delivering improvements.
