Could recent reform lead to better protection for tenants?

Hugo Greer-Walker, Partner at Cambridge law firm Stone King, investigates changes in the housing market.

Hugo,  a Partner in Stone King's Commercial Property Team, explains how recent legislation and reform could lead to better protection for tenants.

Hugo examines The Homes (Fitness for Human Habitation) Act 2018, which came into force on 20 March 2019, and The Tenant Fees Act 2019, which came into force on 1 June 2019.

He also discusses the updated DCLG’s How to Rent guide and what landlords now need to do.

Looking forward, Hugo looks at current consultations and says these could lead to further changes.

These include the Law Commission Residential Leasehold and Commonhold Project, which is addressing leasehold enfranchisement, the right to manage, and commonhold.

Hugo's article can be read in full here.
