If you are self-employed, want to meet other business owners and get some work done at the same time, then Cambridge Business Lounge (CBL) run by Ed Goodman and Nicky Smerdon-Goodman is definitely the place for you.

Being self-employed can be quite an isolated working existence and although the image of working in your local cafe, surrounded by other like-minded entrepreneurs looks quite cool, the reality is that it’s generally not the most productive way to work.

By setting up the Cambridge Business Lounge, Ed and Nicky have established a hot-desking and co-working community – with meeting rooms, networking events, virtual office services, mentoring (and coffee) – all on tap.

Ed himself has been training, supporting and mentoring thousands of start-ups and small businesses across all industries since 2003 and published his first book ‘New Business: Next Steps’ in January 2015.

His partner Nicky’s complementary skills are in providing administrative support including invoicing to database management and stock fulfilment to travel arrangement. She’s also quite a baker, from which the co-workers at the Lounge sometimes enjoy the benefits!

Flexibility is a major part of the CBL ethos and the co-working/hot-desking space and the meeting rooms can all be booked for as little as an hour at a time. Virtual office support is also provided, enabling people to concentrate on their actual business. Services include a virtual receptionist through to content marketing and invoicing.

Local business owners and other professionals are also supported by CBL via a huge variety of networking events. There’s CBL Network, CBL Women’s Network,  Cambridge Small Business Mastermind Group to name just a few, all aimed at supporting the thousands of business owners that are based in the city.
